Rural Transportation Subsidy Program
This subsidy program provides reimbursement for costs incurred by rural and smaller food banks to acquire donated food through the provincial network. This fund supports current Alberta Food Banks members. This program is made possible by a generous contribution by CAF America. For this program, a rural food bank is defined as being located in a community with a population of 25,000 people or less.
Rural Transportation Subsidy Program Guidelines
The subsidy assistance program funds will be allocated according to a rural food banks’ proximity to the 2 major urban centres.
Eligible Costs:
- Renting trucks for transport to or within eligible communities;
- Hiring third-party transportation for transport to or within eligible communities;
- Gas mileage reimbursement costs for transport to or within eligible communities at a rate of $.40 per kilometre.
Applications for Phase 2 of the 2015 reimbursement program are now available.

Grants in Phase 2 cover costs from July 1 to December 31, 2015. The deadline to apply is January 31, 2016.
