Farm To School

Alberta Food Banks is proud to partner this fall again for the second year with Peak of the Market to bring the Farm To School program to Alberta. Together we will help bring fresh vegetables into Alberta schools and day cares as part of healthy fundraising, and support many member food banks with donations of fresh vegetables.

The program, which runs in schools and daycares from September 16 to December 9, was very successful in its first year. In 2014, 11 food banks in Alberta received more than 15,500 pounds of donated fresh produce through this program. In 2013, Peak of the Market had a pilot project with Calgary Interfaith Food Bank, a member of Alberta Food Banks.

Last year, we partnered to expand the program province-wide in partnership with both the Calgary Interfaith Food Bank and Edmonton's Food Bank. We hope to see fresh produce donated to 19 food banks around Alberta this fall through this program.

If you think your school or day care might be interested in participating in this fundraiser in 2015, please visit the Farm To School website: http://www.farmtoschool.ca/donations.cfm
